Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) says it has launched an investigation into the derailment of a Kaduna-bound passenger train between Kubwa Station and Asham Station on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor.

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance, NSIB, Mrs Bimbo Oladeji explains that from preliminary information, six passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, while no fatalities were recorded.

Mrs Oladeji says a go-team of investigators has already been deployed to the site to gather evidence, assess the scene, and begin a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding the accident

The Bureau expresses sympathy to the injured passengers and assured all affected individuals of its support.

It adds that the investigation will focus on identifying both the immediate and underlying causes of the derailment, with the ultimate aim of issuing safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
