President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for a state visit.
A statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga says the president arrived at Brasilia International Airport on Monday at 12:30 am, after flying in from Los Angeles, United States.
According to Onanuga, Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Ambassador of Brazil to Nigeria, were amongst the Brazilian officials who welcomed President Tinubu.
He explains that Bianca Ojukwu, Nigeria’s Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, was also there to receive the president at the Air Base reception.
Onanuga notes that the President and his team, including heads of government agencies and private sector members, will participate in bilateral talks and the signing of agreements.
According to the president’s spokesperson, the official welcoming ceremony, with full military honors, will be held on Monday at the Planalto Palace.
He stressed that the President and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will have a private meeting, followed by bilateral meetings with senior officials from both governments.
“The leaders will witness the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and hold a joint press conference afterwards. During the state visit, President Tinubu will meet with the President of the Brazilian Senate, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, and the President of the Supreme Federal Court.
Onanuga added that President Tinubu will also participate in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum as part of his program in Brasília on Monday.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu last week departed Yokohama, Japan, for Brazil.
President Tinubu left Nigeria on August 15 visited Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he had a stopover before arriving in Yokohama August 18, where he attended the 9th Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD9) on August 20, 2025.
During his stay in Yokohama, the President had some bilateral meetings and an interactive session with the Nigerian diaspora,
President Tinubu called on Nigerians in Diaspora to contribute their expertise and resources towards consolidating national development and building a stronger, more prosperous country.
