Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has commenced the distribution of free Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) commodities to 106 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the state.

The initiative is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving healthcare access for women and children.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim,Pointed out that the commodities will assist in reducing preventable maternal and child death through strengthening the delivery of primary healthcare services in Kano.

He charged Zonal Directors and Heads of Departments (HODs) to ensure accountability and transparency in the distribution process.

The DG warned against diversion or misuse of the free commodities, stressing that the Board will closely monitor the exercise to guarantee that the items reach the intended beneficiaries.

Professor Salisu commended the governor for fulfilling his campaign promises and prioritizing maternal and child health as well  as the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Labaran Abubakar Yusuf, for his continuous support and leadership in driving reforms in the health sector.

Also speaking, the Director of Pharmacy, Pharmacist Abdullahi Abubakar Danzabuwa, assured that the commodities are of the highest quality and will be distributed according to global best practices in pharmaceutical supply and management.

The Board reiterated that the intervention reflects its dedication to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and removing financial barriers that prevent mothers and children from accessing essential healthcare services.

KSPHCMB expressed confidence that the initiative will significantly improve maternal and child health outcomes across the state, further consolidating Kano’s position as a leader in primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
