Kano State Government has donated ten new motorcycles to forest rangers working at Falgore Game Reserve as part of efforts to strengthen biodiversity preservation and wildlife conservation.

The motorcycles were handed over by Managing Director of the Kano State Zoological and Wildlife Management Agency (KAZOWMA), Conservator Sadiq Kura Mohammed, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, during the commemoration of World Rangers Day 2025 held at the Falgore Base Camp, Doguwa Local Government Area.

Conservator Mohammed described rangers as the “unsung heroes of conservation”, commending their dedication in combating tree felling, poaching, monitoring endangered species, and supporting local communities.

“Our rangers are the backbone of our conservation efforts. Their service is critical to safeguarding the planet’s natural heritage,” he said.

The Director of Zoo Services, Hajiya Hafsat Bello, noted that World Rangers Day is observed annually to recognize the courage and sacrifice of rangers who risk their lives protecting wildlife and ecosystems.

“We celebrate those still working under difficult conditions, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” she added.

District Head of Doguwa Alhaji Sarki Muhammad Dankadai, commended Governor Yusuf for supporting the rangers, stressing that Falgore Reserve is vital as the source of River Kano, which flows into Tiga Dam, and serves as a major carbon sink for the state.

Speaking on behalf of the rangers, Hisham Sulaiman Aliyu, Second-in-Command at Falgore Game Reserve, expressed appreciation to the state government and KAZOWMA for prioritizing ranger welfare and safety.

He said the support has boosted anti-poaching patrols, habitat restoration, and tree conservation efforts.

This year’s World Rangers Day was marked under the theme, “Rangers: Powering Transformative Conservation,” which highlights the role rangers play in biodiversity protection, peacebuilding, and supporting communities around protected areas.
