Jigawa State Government has entered into partnership with the Border Communities Development Agency, BCDA, and Chinese investors to establish a livestock processing plant in Maigatari, Jigawa State.

The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit to Governor Malam Umar Namadi in Dutse by the Executive Secretary of BCDA, Dr. George D.A. Kelly, alongside representatives of the Yangpu Global Corporation Forum of China.

The project aims to make Maigatari a major hub for livestock production and processing in Nigeria, creating jobs, boosting cross-border trade, and driving inclusive economic growth in Jigawa State.

Governor Namadi described the initiative as a milestone in improving the livelihoods of border communities while strengthening the state’s economy.

Dr. Kelly explained that Maigatari was carefully selected as the pilot location for the project due to its strategic position and vast economic potential.

He revealed that the Chinese investors are focusing not only on cattle production but also on cattle processing, assuring that funding has already been secured from banks in China to kick-start the project.

Dr. Kelly also commended Jigawa’s infrastructure development, particularly the cargo airport in Dutse and the ongoing rail line project, which he said would boost trade and investment opportunities.

In response, Governor Namadi thanked the BCDA and the investors for choosing Jigawa State, pledging his administration’s full support and collaboration to ensure the project’s success.

The governor reaffirmed Jigawa’s position as a leading destination for investment in Nigeria, ranking second in ease of doing business, with great opportunities in agriculture and livestock development.

He highlighted the presence of one of Africa’s largest livestock markets in Jigawa, alongside a new Ministry of Livestock Development created to maximize the sector’s potential.

Governor Namadi assured the investors that Jigawa is fully ready for business, with a one-stop-shop investment promotion agency to fast-track approvals and processes.

He expressed confidence that the project will enhance economic activities across the state and improve the lives of the people, pledging unwavering government support.
