A lecturer at Bayero University Kano, Professor Kamilu Sani Fagge, has expressed concern over alleged vote buying during last Saturday’s by-election conducted by INEC.

In an interview in Kaduna, Professor Fagge noted that such compromises in the electoral process could undermine democratic governance in the country, and urged relevant authorities not to tolerate the act.

He stressed the need for the independent National Electoral Commission to enforce laws governing elections in the country and deal decisively with offenders to serve as deterrent in the interest of the current democracy.

Professor Kamilu Pagge also blamed apathy by some voters on alleged public mistrust of political leaders who have failed to meet aspiration of their constituencies, as against politics of patriotism and integrity practised during the first and second republics.

The lecturer advised the electorate to shun money politics and vote for credible leaders to move the nation forward.
