President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, embark on a two-nation diplomatic tour to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before proceeding to Japan.

According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22.

With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, the conference will focus on Africa’s economic transformation, improved business environment, and stronger institutions through private investment and innovation, as well as building a resilient and sustainable African society.

During his stay in Japan, the President will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral meetings, and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.

Initiated in 1993 by the Japanese government in partnership with the UN, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank, TICAD is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was hosted in Tunisia in August 2022.

Following TICAD9, President Tinubu will travel to Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, on a state visit from August 24 to 25 at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In Brazil, he will hold bilateral talks, attend a business forum with investors, and witness the signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at boosting cooperation between both countries.
