In a major step towards eradicating malaria, the Gwarzo Local Government Area (LGA) has commenced the distribution of 189,600 free insecticide-treated mosquito nets to households across the area.

The initiative was officially launched at ’Yar Kasuwa Clinic in Alkalawa Quarters, Gwarzo town.

Speaking at the event, Head of Primary Healthcare, Alhaji Sulaiman Abdulqadir Karaye, who represented the LGA Chairman, Dr. Mani Tsoho Gwarzo, urged residents particularly mothers to make proper use of the nets.

He cautioned beneficiaries against washing or selling the nets and advised that they be used every night for maximum protection against malaria.

Alhaji Sulaiman expressed appreciation to the LGA Chairman, the District Head of Gwarzo, the Kano State Government, healthcare workers, traditional rulers, and community members for their support in the fight against the disease.

As part of the event, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the District Head, Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta of Kano, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Gwarzo, for his consistent support of health-related government initiatives.

Also addressing the gathering, Health Educator Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Musa Karaye, advised residents to hang the mosquito nets in shaded areas for a few hours before use due to the potency of the chemicals used in their treatment.

In his remarks, Alhaji Bello Abubakar Gwarzo, represented by Malam Kabiru Muhammad, commended the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo for their commitment to health and malaria prevention.

He encouraged residents to ensure nightly use of the nets to avoid exposure to mosquito-borne diseases.

Beneficiaries, including Malama Bilkisu Usman and Saifu Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the Governor, the LGA Chairman, and development partners for providing the life-saving nets.

The large-scale distribution campaign is part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Government and local authorities to reduce malaria cases and protect vulnerable populations.
