A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Umaru Dembo, has called for a reduction in the budgetary allocation to the National Assembly in line with the current economic realities in the country.
Alhaji Dembo, who expressed concern over the large sums allocated to legislators without corresponding impact, emphasized the need to redirect such funds toward the development of social infrastructure to better justify the democratic process.
He was also dismayed over reports of alleged non-performance by majority of the lawmakers and reminded them of their mandate expected to make laws for the socio-economic development and security of the citizenry.
Alhaji Umaru Dembo advised all political leaders to demonstrate fear of God and patriotism in the discharge of their duties to meet public aspiration and move the nation forward, and prayed for success of the current democracy.
