Jigawa State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to providing necessary recommendations and advice to guide local government councils in the state towards achieving their development objectives.

The Chairman of the committee on local government who is the member representing Gwiwa Constituency, Alhaji Aminu Zakari, gave the assurance during an official visit to Birniwa Local Government Council.

He said the visit is part of the function of the legislative arm to supervise the implementation of policies and programmes initiated by the executive arm to ensure good governance.

He explained that the committee also consider the socio-economic condition of the people as one of the determinants of prosperity and under development with a view to informing the executive arm on the need to design people oriented policies and programmes.

He said the visit also provide an avenue for discussion with executive and legislative councils as well as the management staff of the local government with a view to ensuring synergy through cordial working relationship between segments.

Earlier, the Chairman of Birniwa Local Government Council Malam Shehu Baba Birniwa, expressed his readiness to make good use of the recommendations and advise from the committee for the development of the area.

Malam Shehu Baba explained that he has being operating an open door policy to entrench mutual working relationship between stakeholders as the easiest means to administer the local government smoothly.

Meanwhile, Jigawa State House of Assembly on Local Government Affairs sub-committees have inspected capital projects being executed by Birniwa Local Government Council across the nooks and crannies of the area from October 2024 to date.

Subcommittee A led by the member representing Sule Tankarkar Constituency, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sa’id also inspected the construction of five daily prayer mosque in Kakori, renovation of Friday prayer mosque in Malandi, installation of 14 solar street lights in Taljari, construction of shops and market stalls in Birniwa market and other strategic places, renovation of local Government council staff quarters and renovation of Shari’ah court, Birniwa.

Subcommittee A led by the member representing Guri Constituency, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, inspected 5 lock up shops project constructed at the cost of over 22 point 8 million naira in Birniwa town, lock up shops constructed at Kupsa Market at the cost of over 11 million Naira and market stall also at Kupsa constructed at the cost of over 4.8 million naira.

Others are earthing filling in Kupsa town at the cost of over 4 point 9 million naira as well as a five daily prayer mosque at Garuba Village at the cost of over 9 million naira.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the visit also look into the issue of employment of 22 environmental staff as casual workers as well as the construction of one block of two classrooms in two nomadic schools as contained in the budget of the local government.
