National leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ has been urged to intensify efforts toward the immediate implementation of the long-promised Federal Government media salary structure, aimed at promoting professionalism and efficiency in the sector.

Some journalists working with Federal Government-owned media organisations made the appeal following continued delays in implementing the policy, which was originally initiated by former Information Minister, Professor Dora Akunyili.

They noted in several comments made in Kaduna that the current salary structure was inadequate to guarantee a conducive working environment, considering the socio-economic hardships faced by media practitioners.

They stressed the need for the relevant authorities to expedite action towards implementation of the new media salary while calling on the National Assembly to provide necessary enabling laws for its operation.

A public Affairs analyst, Alhaji Idris Aliyu Kaura who expressed support for the media salary structure described Federal Media practitioners as patriotic, professional working to sensitise the public on development issues.
