Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, has charged newly graduated correctional officers to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking at the passing-out parade and graduation ceremony of the 240th Basic Recruit Course at the Correctional Service Training School, Kaduna, the CG represented by the Deputy Controller General in charge of Training and Staff Development, Olarenwanju Amoran commended the officers for their courage and determination throughout the six-month training program.

CG Nwakuche noted that their graduation comes at a critical time, as reform is central to the national agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope initiative.

“You have shown discipline, endurance, and commitment to excellence,” he said. “I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Commandant and the entire training team of this noble institution for the high standard of training delivered, which is evident in the instructional quality of your parade.”

He emphasized that the Nigerian Correctional Service Act of 2019 has fundamentally transformed the service by integrating custodial and non-custodial measures in the management of inmates.

“Our training institutions have adjusted their curriculum to reflect these evolving statutory responsibilities and contemporary correctional standards,

“As you take your place in the various commands across the nation, I charge you to uphold the highest standards of discipline, loyalty, and professionalism.”

The Controller General reminded the officers that his administration has zero tolerance for disloyalty and unprofessional conduct, urging them to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the new law and the service’s standing orders.

He also encouraged proper use of established communication channels for addressing official concerns and grievances.

He extended gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his steadfast support, which made the successful training of this batch possible.

“I also express our collective appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership and commitment to security sector reforms, especially in the ongoing development of the Nigeria Correctional Service,” he said.

“To our graduating recruits, I congratulates you once again. May your career in the Nigerian Correctional Service be marked by integrity, professionalism, and a strong sense of duty to the nation.”

The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of awards of excellence to deserving officers in categories including leadership, drill, academics, and behavior.

A total of three hundred and thirty eight  junior correctional officers graduated from the course.
