Special Adviser to the Governor of Katsina State on Tertiary Health Institutions, Hon. Umar Mammada

Katsina State Government says, only qualified health institutions will continue to operate in the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Health Institutions, Hon. Umar Mammada, announced the state government’s position on the proliferation of private health training institutions and the need to verify their compliance with regulatory standards.

He stated that the first visitation panel, inaugurated on October 25, 2024, had completed its assessment of these institutions to address growing concerns over their unchecked expansion in the state.

According to the panel’s report, most of the private institutions were found to have serious deficiencies.

The panel concluded that only nine out of the 31 private colleges evaluated met the necessary operational standards.

He further explained that the majority of the private health training institutions visited were found unfit to operate in the state due to noncompliance with both regulatory and professional standards.

“This led to the immediate formation of a White Paper Committee to advise on the implementation of the panel’s recommendations”.

The Special Adviser noted that following the White Paper’s recommendation and the implementation of the two committees’ reports, 31 tertiary health institutions were identified.

He noted that Out of these, 9 were granted and recommended for approval to conduct academic activities and training, while 21 were denied approval and are to remain closed.

According to him, the schools that were recommended for approval are as follows: Bawo College of Health Sciences, Daura; Essam College of Health Sciences, Katsina; Cherish College of Health Sciences, Katsina; Cherish School of Health Science and Technology, Katsina; North West College of Health Sciences and Technology, Katsina; and Kudan College of Health Science.

Others include the College of Health and Environmental Science; Umar Faruk College of Health Science, Daura; Muslim Community College of Health Sciences, Funtua; and the College of Health Sciences and Environmental Studies, Funtua.

Hon. Umar Mammada added that the remaining 22 institutions were not approved and will remain closed.
