Zamfara State Government says no fewer than 16 investors have shown strong interest to investing in the state’s solid minerals sector.

The State Commissioner for Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed Tumbido, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Gusau on the outcome of the state’s participation in the recent Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) Congress held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

According to the Commissioner, the Zamfara delegation have engaged in high-level strategic discussions, exhibitions and networking sessions by focussing on showcasing the state’s vast investment opportunities particularly in the solid minerals and agriculture sectors.

Alhaji Abdulrahman Tumbido noted that, the attending the summit was part of the state government’s deliberate efforts to attract investment into key sectors that will drive economic growth and development.

He stressed that, several prospective investors had already begun reaching out through emails and calls, with preliminary discussions currently underway.

“Solid minerals are a key focus because, as you all know, the Federal Government recently lifted the embargo on mining activities, as a result, we’ve seen increased interest from various companies eager to invest in Zamfara.”

Alhaji Abdulrahman Tumbido noted that the ongoing construction of the state’s airport will play a crucial role in unlocking investment potential.

“We’re working hard to complete the airport because no serious investor would want to travel over seven hours by road from Abuja to Zamfara. Once the airport is ready, it will ease access and open up the state to new opportunities,” he explained.

He further asserted that Zamfara is among Nigeria’s richest states in terms of solid mineral resources and, if fully harnessed, could rival even oil-producing states in revenue generation.

Addressing the issue of illegal mining, the Commissioner said both the state and federal governments are collaborating to end the practice.

“That’s why we are calling on legitimate investors to come in. Once they are on the ground, illegal mining will naturally phase out. Already, the Federal Government has deployed anti-illegal mining task forces across the state,” he added.

Tumbido highlighted several achievements recorded by the Ministry since the inception of the Lawal administration, including the construction of an ultra-modern motor park, a new market, the completion of the iconic seven-storey building, and the remodeling of the state amusement park.

He also announced that the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism generated over N523 million in revenue in 2024—attributed to reforms and policies aimed at boosting the state’s socio-economic development.

The Commissioner concluded by stating that Zamfara will begin organizing investment summits once the airport project is completed.
