Senior Registrar, Dr Fidelis Linga  Of Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTHG), Nephrology Unit ,has urged the public to adopt healthier lifestyles to prevent kidney disease.

He stated this to newsmen in Gombe on the occasion of World Kidney Day.

Dr. Fidelis Linga highlighted poor habits such as excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, junk food intake, and a sedentary lifestyle as factors contributing to the rising cases of kidney-related ailments.

He emphasised the importance of routine hospital check-ups, a balanced diet, and regular exercise in preventing kidney disease.

He revealed that Globally, 850 million people suffer from kidney disease out of which 11 million  die from it each year describing the trend as worrisome.

Dr. Fidelis Linga said that FTH Gombe is working towards acquiring additional dialysis machines and medical personnel to accommodate the high number of kidney patients trooping to the facility for dialysis.

He said the  effort was aimed at  improving access to life-saving dialysis for patients battling kidney ailments.
