Jigawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects linked to an arson attack on a Fulani settlement in Taura Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on the night of March 9, 2025, saw a group of youths from Zangon Maje Village storming Gidan Na Ruwa, setting fire to homes and granaries.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said in Dutse that the attackers, armed with torches and chanting war slogans, caused panic among the residents, forcing them to flee.
By the time security personnel arrived, twenty-four thatched houses and sixteen local granaries had been destroyed.
Investigations revealed that the violence stemmed from an earlier altercation involving two young men from Zangon Maje, identified as Musa Hussaini, 20, and Shanu Sule, 26.
The two men were reportedly beaten, and their motorcycle was snatched, prompting them to mobilize their community members for retaliation.
The Divisional Police Officer of Taura and his patrol team swiftly intervened to restore order, while additional security measures, including intensified patrols, were put in place to prevent further violence.
On the morning of March 10, the Area Commander of Ringim led a delegation of police officers to the affected community for an assessment and dialogue with stakeholders.
The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and warned against taking the law into one’s hands.
“The Command will not tolerate any act of lawlessness. Anyone found guilty of inciting violence or destruction of property will be dealt with accordingly,” the PPRO, Lawan Shiisu Adam said.
The statement emphasises that the Security forces remain on high alert in the area, ensuring peace and stability while efforts continue to bring all perpetrators to justice.
