Jigawa State House of Assembly has repealed the State Hisbah Advisory Committee Law of 2004 to pave the way for the passage of a bill establishing the Jigawa State Hisbah Board.
The decision followed the presentation and adoption of the report by the House Committee on Religious Affairs.
Presenting the report, the Committee Chairman and Member representing Garki Constituency, Alhaji Abdu Ila Muku, stated that the committee had engaged with stakeholders and gathered data on similar laws and reviews during the course of its assignment.
According to him, the law aims to provide reforms measures that will strengthen the activities of Hisbah Guard through legal backing.
Alhaji Abdu Ila Muku added that a robust Hisbah Board would assist towards neighbourhood surveillance, crime detection and prevention, restore moral values and ensure peaceful coexistence as well as religious tolerance among the people.
Member representing Hadejia Constituency, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Jallo recommended that the Hisbah Board be assign with the responsibility to enforce the test before marriage initiative.
The Member representing Birnin Kudu, Alhaji Muhammad Kabir Ibrahim, also recommended that all premarital tests should be conducted in a government hospital, a recommendation that was adopted through unanimous consent.
After the Clerk, Barrister Musa Aliyu Abubakar, conducted the third reading of the bill, the Speaker, Alhaji Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced its passage into law and prayed that the law would help enhance moral values in the state.
