President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that the appointment, which follows a rigorous selection process, will take effect on March 7, 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. However, his final selection came after a competitive, merit-based process involving senior Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The process comprised a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
The Presidency emphasized that the selection was conducted transparently and aligned with President Tinubu’s commitment to excellence and competence in key public service roles.
Ogunjimi is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy in 1990.
He also holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. A fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, he brings extensive expertise to his new role.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi and urged him to uphold professionalism, integrity, and dedication in serving the nation.
