Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has honored 35 indigenes of the state, who have excelled and serving at various fields within and outside the state.

The programme, tagged; State Banquet in Honor of Distinguished Kano Sons and Daughters, held at the government house,was the first of its kind in history.

The 35 personalities that received the honor include serving and retired military officers, including 19 Major-Generals, Police, civil servants, medical doctors, engineers, among others.

Speaking after presenting awards of honor to all the 35 awardees, governor Yusuf charged them to contribute to the development of the state through their respective endeavor.

According to him, the dinner was a historic and a sign of appreciation to the awardees for serving the state and the nation at various capacities.

“This is a historic day in Kano state, that distinguished Kano indigenes, who excelled at various capacities through dedication to service are honored by my government.

“These 35 personalities are indigenes of Kano who have contributed to the development of the state at their respective endeavor. The people of Kano need to recognize and appreciate them, that is why we decided to organize this event to appreciate and motivate them to do much more to the state,” he said.

The governor pointed out that the event was in any way, not political, but organized to recognize deserving indigenes irrespective of their political background and affiliation.

“I want to reiterate the fact that this occasion is not political. It is not in any way connected to politics. Whoever is here is to witness the recognition and honor of these good fellows and congratulate them.

“God willing, as advised, we will continue to hold this mind of occasion time to time to honor distinguished Kano indigenes.

“I hereby congratulate the awardees and their respective families,”

The governor also urged the teeming youth in the state to emulate the awardees, noting that they had become a model worthy of emulation.

Governor Yusuf also states that the government is planning to honor distinguished individuals in other areas such as business communities, Ulamas, among others.

In a remark earlier, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim, the Emir of Gaya, congratulated the awardees and appealed to them to always support and provide opportunities for younger generations to excel and for the overall development of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Prof. Galadanchi, an elder statesman and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,commended Governor Yusuf’s foresight to recognize the achievements of Kano indigenes, urging other leaders to emulate this gesture.

While thanking the governor for the gesture, Galadanchi urged the awardees and all other Kano indigenes working at various places to put the state in heart by bringing opportunities for the younger ones to benefit.
