Kwara State Government has launched a major agricultural initiative, distributing 100 motorcycles and 5,000 enzymes to agricultural extension agents and livestock farmers under the Livestock Productivity and Resilient Support Project (L-PRES).

The distribution ceremony, held at the Government House in Ilorin, underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing food security and agricultural productivity.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Mamman Saba-Jibril, also presented a Toyota Hilux to the Department of Livestock Services in the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to improve field operations.

Speaking at the event, the governor emphasized that these efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to transform the agricultural sector. He highlighted the administration’s strides, including the construction and rehabilitation of boreholes with water troughs to reduce farmer-herder conflicts and ensure water availability along livestock routes.

Additionally, the governor noted that over 700 extension agents and farmers had been trained in small ruminant production and feed processing. The state has also initiated mass anthrax vaccination campaigns across all 16 local government areas to safeguard animal health and boost livestock farming.

State Project Coordinator for L-PRES, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, lauded the initiative, stating it would enhance extension workers’ ability to reach remote farmers more efficiently while promoting best practices in livestock production.

The intervention reflects a comprehensive strategy to empower farmers and strengthen food and nutrition security across Kwara State.
