Muslims have been encouraged to dedicate part of their wealth to endowments, known as waqf, to promote societal development and progress.
This call was made by the Director of Al-Furqan Charitable Organization, Kano, Dr. Abubakar Muhammad, during a sensitization workshop held in Jos, Plateau State.
Dr. Abubakar emphasized that societies need individuals who are willing to invest in valuable projects that directly benefit their communities.
He also urged philanthropists to involve their children in endowment activities to ensure the continuity of such initiatives after their passing.
Dr. Abubakar stressed the importance of increasing endowments, highlighting their role in transforming numerous societies, particularly in less developed regions.
The convener of the workshop, Director of the Mahanga Research Centre and Chief Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Dr. Muhammad Suleiman Adam, noted that several endowments have significantly improved the lives of orphans and the less privileged by addressing their educational and healthcare needs.
He therefore called for greater awareness among Nigerians about the impact of endowments on societal growth and development.
In Islam, wealth is considered a trust from Allah, and individuals are encouraged to use it responsibly and charitably. Investing in endowments is viewed as a means of fostering societal progress while earning rewards in the hereafter.
