Former American footballer turned actor, OJ Simpson, who was cleared of double murder in 1998, of his former wife Nicole Brown and a friend in a trial that gripped America, has died aged 76.

His family confirmed the death of the former NFL football star on his X handle on social media on Thursday, 11th April 2024.

“On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

Despite being acquitted of the charges in a highly publicized trial, Simpson’s trajectory shifted from sports stardom to a troubled public figure, facing subsequent legal challenges, including a 33-year prison sentence for armed robbery in 2007.
