We’ll Provide You Constitutional Role In Governance – Akpabio Tells Traditional Rulers

The Council of Traditional rulers in Nigeria has appealed to the 10th National Assembly to remember their flight in the constitutional amendent for a better and deserving position for sustainable peace and security in Nigeria.

The Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Sa’adu Abubakar made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Senate to congratulate their emergence as leaders after being elected distinguished senators

The sultan represented by Etsu Nupe Alhaji Yahya Abubakar debunked insinuations that the traditional institutions are powerful enough rather, saying the traditional rulers are handcuffed to give a meaningful contributions in mordern day democratic system without being inclusive in the laws of the land

Alhaji Yahya Abubakar further explained that as it is today the institutions had no helping hand to contribute for sustainable peace no matter how they want to support the present administration in the fight against insecurity and other social vices

He however advised the leadership of the two chambers to have a harmonious working relationship toward actualising the dream of traditional rulers for the betterment of this country

Responding on this issue the President of the 10th senate senator Godswil Akpabio, after thanking the royal fathers assured them in accordance with the law to join hands with the sister house to find a befitting role for the traditional rulers in the constitution

He noted that if traditional rulers are given the proper role they deserved, it would help immensely in curbing the menace of insecurity

He said given them such function in the constitution would guide the traditional rulers in taking the desired action to deal with issues at hand without escalating beyond control

The senate president described the traditional institutiins as the reservour of information which is always required to deal with nasty situation in the country

Senator Godswil Akpabio assured them that their journey today will not be in vain, in their quest to contribute to the development of Nigeria.
