NAGGW Director of Administration of the Agency, Nasir Ismailia

The National Agency of Great Green Wall NAGGW has planted over ten million trees in eleven frontline States to safeguard them from desertification and encroachment.

The Director General of the Agency Dr Yusuf Maina Bukar made this known while flagging off the 2023 National Great Green Wall Day celebration in Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital.

Represented by the Director, Administration of the Agency, Alhaji Nasir Ismail said Dr Yusuf Maina also came up with a lot of development, new innovations and transformations with a view to moving the agency forward.

The DG also revealed that the 11 Front line States includes Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, kebbi, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara States.

According to him, the aim of the campaign is to bring awareness and to create green wall as well as to bring among Front line States the corridor to plant trees to protect desertification from Sahara.

He added that the celebration also aim at bringing stake holders together that includes Governors, traditional rulers, Ministry of environment and Schools to form a habit of planting trees in their environment.

The Dr Yusuf maintained that the agency under his administration had introduced a lot of initiatives for the National Great Green Wall for it sustainability since it inception to date.

In their separate remark, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment Mohammed Abubakar, Head Mistress of the Ibrahim Gusau Special Model Primary School, Hajiya Amina A.Usman both assures to sustain and protect the planted trees in their domain.

Highlight of the event was the planting of trees at Ibrahim Gusau Model Primary School in Gusau, JB Yakubu Secretariat, Government House and Gusau Emir’s Palace among others
