Barely few days to eid-ul-adha, Ram sellers, have expressed dissatisfaction with the low turn out of buyers this year.

Reports indicate that, animal markets are scanty due to lack of customers to purchase cows, camels and rams for sacrifice in Kano.

Speaking to Radio Nigeria, the Chairman Gandun Albasa animal market association , Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed explained that, the price of rams ranging from thirty thousand, fifty thousand and above is available at the market.

He attributed the increase in the price of animals in 2023, to high cost of animal feeds and transportation.

The Chairman noted that, the low turn out of buyers is discouraging compared to last year, where most sellers succeeded in selling, almost all the sacrificial animals before sallah day.

Alhaji Yusuf urged the public, to desist from purchasing animals from road side markets ,to avoid falling into the hands of scammers and thieves.

The country’s economic situation is a major setback to commercial activities ”he said.

Some of the sellers who spoke to Radio Nigeria, Abdulmalik Auwal,Sabo Musa and Abdulqadir Hambali attributed the low patronage to financial constraints.

They noted that, non payment of salaries is another major set back that has gone a long way in promoting the decline in buying rams, goats, cows and camels.

They called on the government to expedite action to ensure hitch free Eid celebrations.

Reacting, Isah Sulaiman and Aliyu Sa’ad decried over the economic situation in the country, saying that, they were at the market to buy rams as sallah is fast approaching.

They pointed out that, lack of money, would hinder most family heads from purchasing animals for the sacrifice.

Most of them, urged government and all relevant stakeholders, to map out policies and programs, aimed at uplifting the standard of living among citizens.

Radio Nigeria reports that, the Gandun Albasa Rams market located in Kano municipal local government area, was almost empty as animals were seen on display without buyers.
