The Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has ordered the restriction of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 12 am to 6 pm on election day in all states where elections will be conducted.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the directive excludes essential workers such as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), electoral observers, accredited media and observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies, and firefighters.

According to the statement, the IGP also banned all security aides attached to VIPs and escorts from following their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centers on the election day.

It noted that the IGP also stopped states and private owned security outfits from engaging in election security management noted.

The statement also excluded the FCT from the directive as as no election will be conducted their.

IGP Baba urged Nigerians to be law-abiding during and after the elections and assured them that all necessary security arrangements have been arranged to ensure promote peaceful polls.
