An officer of the Nigerian Army and two soldiers have been shot dead by another soldier who later shot himself dead in Rabbah local government Area of Sokoto state .

In a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General
Onyema Nwachukwu, says the deceased officer was the commander of a military formation known as Forward Operation Base, where troops were deployed for internal security operations .

The statement says the incident could not be immediately ascertained, as the soldier who killed his colleagues also shot himself immediately.

The Nigerian Army has instituted investigations into the unfortunate incident in order to forestall future reoccurrence.

It further says the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army, who also doubles as the Commander Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji Major General Godwin Mutkut and other senior officers had visited the location and commiserate with the troops for loosing their colleagues in such an unfortunate situation.

The statement quoted the GOC urging the troops to be their brother’s keepers, and report any suspicious behavior observed amongst their colleagues, and encouraged them to remain calm and committed in the discharge of their duties.
