Minister Tasks MDAs On Effective Service Delivery

Written by Basirat Memudu

The Federal Government has admonished Ministries, Departments and Agencies to adopt effective service delivery strategies to remain relevant in contemporary governance.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami stated this while addressing a retreat for the Board and Management of the Nigeria Communications Satellite, NIGCOMSAT.

Professor Pantami said based on the recommendations of the 2012 Steven Oronsaye report which looked into the merger of government agencies, many agencies were considered less productive due to poor service delivery to the public.

He said due to the trend, government establishments are churning less than 10 percent aggregate of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product while the private sector was providing about 90%.

Professor Pantami called on various unions to partner with the government in the business of developmental governance as its intentions on staff are solely for the good of the nation and the citizenry.

He said the Federal government would ensure that relevant professionals are always appointed to head MDA’s to ensure productivity and service delivery.

The Managing Director of the Nigeria Communication Satellite, Mr Tukur Lawal said the company is poised on profitability as the government had invested huge resources in the company.

Mr Lawal called for an act that would give NIGCOMSAT the leverage to maximize turnover in the satellite market.

The theme of the retreat was the 4th Industrial revolution and exponential growth.
