CBN Urges Nigerians To Deposit Old Notes

The Central Bank of Nigeria says with barely days to the deadline for the deposit of the old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes, Nigerians are advised to patronise genuine POS operators to deposit and open e-naira account.

CBN Director of security services, Alhaji Atiku Mohammad Nasir made the call in Lafia at a meeting with all first-class traditional rulers in Nasarawa State.

Atiku Mohammad observed that the easiest way to deposit the old naira notes was to approach POS agents as the expiry date is around the corner as banks would witness long queues of customers.

He urged the traditional rulers to take the message to their subjects and convince them of the need to embrace electronic banking for easy transactions and safety.

The CBN Director of security services insisted that the E-Naira wallet and by extension the cashless policy would gradually come to stay.

Nasarawa state chairman traditional council of chiefs and Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bagge appreciated effort of the CBN delegation to sensitise the traditional rulers to transfer the message down to their various domains across the state.

At the Awe local government central market venue of the awareness campaign, CBN Director of security services, Atiku Mohammad performed a practical demonstration of the process to the market women.

Most of the traders said they were ignorant about opening accounts through the POS operators.
