The new General Officer Commanding, Nigerian Army, 8 Division, in Sokoto state, Major General Godwin Mutkut has charged officers and Men of the Nigerian Army to adhere to the code of conduct and rules of engagement guiding the democratic processes in a bit to ensuring peaceful elections in the country.
Major General Godwin Mutkut gave the charge at the official handing over of the Division held in Sokoto state.
General Mutkut who took over from Major General Uwem Bassey assured that the 8 division would work towards ensuring peaceful elections for socio security and economic development of the country.
The new GOC is also the Commander Joint Task Force Northwest JTF NW Operation HADARIN DAJI OPHD at the Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara state.
The Operation Hadarin Daji which covers Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states was established in a bit to keeping peace in the trouble areas of the Northwest region.
The GOC also promised to sustained and build upon the legacy of his predecessor while urging commanders and troops of the operation to brace-up for the enormous task ahead especially as the nation is about to witness the general election.
According to him, troops under his watch would not relent on untill all criminal elements within the region had been flushed out from their enclaves and forced to embrace peace.
He however commended his predecessor Major General Bassey, for his remarkable achievements and purposeful leadership in restoring peace and stability in his Operational Area of Responsibility.
Earlier, in his farewell address to troops of OPHD, Major General Uwem Bassey, applauded the officers and soldiers for their contribution towards the success of his tenure as the Commander of the Operation.
He implored them to accord more support and dedication to his successor as he hands over the leadership baton.
Bassey commend troops of the division for their efforts in dealing with criminal elements during his tenure as the GOC in 8 Division.
He said with the corporation and support of officers and Men in the Division helped him to succeed as the commander of Operation Hadaran Daji.
He commended his successor, Major General Mutkut as someone who is ready for the task as an experience officer who has worked in different levels.
Major General Uwem Bassey aid his seventeen months stay in the Division was very rewarding and purposeful in his entire career.
