The 29th Regular Meeting of the National Council on water Resources of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources has commenced in Sokoto state.

The meeting kicked up with technical session that is expected to last till tomorrow.

Minister of water Resources, Engineer Sulaiman Adamu and the Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal would grace the occasion on Thursday, January 29.

In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Didi Esther Welson said the meeting which started with technical session was aimed at discussing prospect and challenges of actualizing water related Sustainable Development goals of the present administration.

The Permanent Secretary reminded that the Ministry is saddled with the responsibilities of providing sustainable access to safe and sufficient water to meet the cultural and socio-economic needs of all Nigerians in a way that will enhance public health, food security and poverty reduction, while maintaining the integrity of fresh water and ecosystem of the nation.

Mrs Didi Esther Welson said the National council would also discuss modalities and implementation of Water Resource’s Policies and Programs.
