Borno state Police Command has secured three hundred and fourteen convictions out of over six hundred cases recorded between January and December this year across the state. 

Similarly, the Command has arrested five hundred and three suspects and prosecuted three hundred and seventy two suspects for committing various offences.

State Commissioner of Police Abdu Umar stated this at a media parley to highlight some of the achievements at the Command’s headquarters in Maiduguri. 

CP Umar explained that out the number, 102 are cases of rape, 200 cases of terrorism, thirty cases of kidnapping, twenty eight cases of drug abuse and twelve cases of political violence. 

“Seven cases of involving twelve suspects from APC and two suspects from PDP for inciting disturbance, threatening any person with violence during political campaign, unlawful possession of weapons at political rally, inciting others in a disorderly manner, causing hurt and mischief ” Umar said.

The Commissioner of Police noted that despite security challenges the state has continued to witness, the Command was able to respond promptly due to review of operational strategies, acquisition of operational assets, enhance intelligence and improved synergy between the Force, military and other security agencies. 

He added that within the year under review, the Command also recovered significant number of weapons including twelve locally made guns, three AK47 rifles, four Rocket Propelled Grenade and cache of ammunition. 

Abdu Umar called on people of the state particularly political actors to at all times conduct their activities according to the rules as the Police will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute any person who violate such rules.
