Federal government has postponed resumption of skeletal train services at the Abuja-Kaduna railway.

This is to allow Nigerians come to terms with the new modifications on ticketing and other critical services put in place to ensure the safety of lives and property of passengers.

On Friday, the minister had announced that the Abuja Kaduna train service would resume on Monday, 28 November, 2022 with skeletal train schedules.

However, the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo on Sunday while addressing Journalists after test running the train from the Idu Railway Station in Abuja to the Rigasa train station in Kaduna, disclosed that the train services would resume to the public at a later date.

The inspection tour started from the Idu Rail Station when the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, in company of the Minister of state for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, and the Minister of Water resources, Mr. Suleiman Adamu inspected the ticketing section and other critical areas of the station.

The train then moved to the Kubwa train station from where it then left for the Idu railway station in Rigasa, Kaduna State.

Radio Nigeria observed some security trenches along the track and their constant vigilance was admired by those on the train.

At the Rigasa Station in Kaduna, the transportation minister, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo to Journalists he was happy with all he saw from Abuja down to Kaduna.

Mr. Sambo also said some modifications have been made particularly in the areas of ticketing, and that passengers will now be required to submit their phone numbers and national identification numbers, NIN to ensure they are profiled for security reasons.

He noted that the government would continue to monitor development at the railway line and make some more interventions where necessary.

The minister said other security mechanisms have been deployed to the area and expressed optimism that with all that has been done, passengers were now safe and that the train services will resume in a few days.
