The Wife of Borno state Governor, Dr . Falmata Babagana Zulum has assured displaced children due to Boko Haram insurgency that they will will be given the needed support to be productive members of the society. 

Dr Falmata gave the assurance at an event to celebrate the Universal Children’s Day at University of Maiduguri. 

Represented by the Commissioner of Women Affairs Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, the Governor’s wife praised the resilience of the children who despite the trauma, have continued with their education. 

According to her, the event has showcased the resilience of Borno children and also promote unity among diverse segment of the society.

“In Borno emphasis is being laid on the resilience of this children. As you heard when they were talking about their professional presentation, their aspirations of what they want to be in the future, it cut across all kinds of skills and trades. If you analyse the background of this children, they are from Internally displaced persons camps ” Dr Falmata stressed. 

Dr Falmata Babagana Zulum said the children will continue to be groomed and monitored to enable them realize their potentials. 

United Nations Children Fund UNICEF acting Head of Maiduguri Field Office Dr Clement Adams said as peace is gradually returning to the state, the target is to put children at the centre of development. 

He called on other stakeholders to continue to support vulnerable children to grow so as to have a better future. 

Highlight of the event was the final football match between students of Moduganari junior secondary and Gwange junior secondary school where Moduganari defeated Gwange 4-0 to win the competition. 

There was career presentation where the the children exhibited their talents.

The programme was organised by Ministry of Women Affairs with the support of UNICEF, Multi-aid Charity Initiative of the Wife of Borno state Governor and Goalprime.
