Stakeholders Advocate Improved Media Coverage On Women Achievements

Media practitioners have been tasked to change negative narratives by positively portraying Wmwomen's indispensable contributions to politics and other leadership positions. 

Chief Executive Officer , Women Radio -Toun Okewale Sonaiya made the call at a media training for political reporters in Kaduna.

She disclosed that the workshop will be extended to seven other states across the country with Kaduna being the pilot state .

 Toun Okewale said unlike their male counterparts,the achievements of women are under reported hence the need for such workshop to chart a way in giving women relevance and  platform needed  to showcase their attainments and encourage them to do better.

In a paper presentation, one of the facilitators , Mrs. Esther Hadiza Ijeaku noted the need for equality and fairness in provision of opportunities for women and men.

She stressed the need for media organisations to be more deliberate and pragmatic in covering women activities .

In his submission, Dr Ma’aji Peters outlined religious , cultural and socio-economic factors as barriers facing women , arguing that women are performing well in various positions and only need the necessary support to contribute their quota to national development .

Participants who consisted of Journalists drawn across media organisations in Kaduna maintained that they are better equipped for the tasks ahead , adding that the knowledge gained will help them in their reportage of women activities .
