Environmental Experts in Kaduna have urged Federal government to ensure that only essential environmental personnel are selected to attend the 2022 Conference of Parties COP27 in Egypt in view of global financial challenges.

The Chief Executive Officer of a Civil Society Organization, “Bridge that Gap Initiative” Gloria Kasang Bulus stated this at a meeting with Journalists and Environmental Rights Activists in Kaduna.

She explained that environmental disaster were in the increase in a global scale ,and people with intellectual knowledge and capacities to deliberate meaningfully are the category of people required to champion the issues both locally and internationally.

She said the Conference of Parties (COP) is an annual meeting of all Countries that are parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to review the implementation of the Convention and other legal instruments take decisions necessary to promote effective implementation.

Gloria Kasang Bulus revealed that Bridge that Gap had established Malina Nursery Beds and will distribute 500,000 of the plants in the first phase of the programme for plantation across communities in Kaduna.

She condemned indiscriminate felling of trees and disposal of used containers ,which according to her such are among factors that causes environmental hazards and increased global warming.

Earlier, Mr. Zinta Akpoko of Extinction Rebellion explained that the meeting was aimed at reminding governments to act justly on the climate and ecological emergency ,especially as the COP27 commences in Egypt next week.
