The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, PCN,  has delisted some Foreign Institutions training Pharmacists over poor performance of graduates from such Institutions.

Registrar of the council, Mr. Babashehu Ahmed stated this while briefing journalists on the activities of the council and the provisions of the new PCN Law which changed it’s name from “Pharmacists Councils of Nigeria” to “Pharmacy Council of Nigeria”.

Mr. Ahmed said the Council has also beamed its searchlight on other countries in the Middle East to ensure that their institutions have what it takes to train pharmacists.

”We have recognised that we have some challenges from some of our foreign universities bringing in pharmacists. We have presented memos to appropriate committees of the council and currently we have delisted three foreign  Universities because of the poor performance of graduates of those Universities and we have also written those institutions because that is the foundation. We have like three delisted, two from Cameroon and one from Togo. We are also looking at some others coming from the middle east. We have commenced our investigations to ensure they actually have what it takes to train pharmacists,  otherwise we take the same step”. He noted

He stressed that the Council’s enforcement team had in the last four years visited 27,262 pharmacy premises.

Out of the number, 19,559 Premises were shut down including 1,780 premises operating illegally and 16,502 Patent Medicine shops.
