The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved about 600 million Naira for the procurement of 4 customised14-seater armoured carriers for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

Briefing newsmen on the development, the Minister of Justice, Alhaji Abubakar Malami, said the delivery period of the vehicles was 16 weeks.

The procurement of the vehicle, according to the Minister, is to protect personnel of the agency from the spate of recent attacks on them, arising from the agency’s exploits against drug merchants.

The Attorney General of the Federation said the successes recorded by the agency had raised up Nigeria’s integrity within the comity of nations.

Similarly, FEC has given approval to the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development to build a 27-kilometre retaining wall around the salt lake project in Ebonyi State to prevent the commodity from eroding during rainy season.

The Minister, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, who explained that with the approval, Nigeria would be able to save appreciable amount of foreign exchange, said the contract was awarded at about 2 million Naira, to be completed in 6 months’ time.

FEC also approved the memorandum seeking the implementation of the 2nd phase of the National Sugar Masterplan for another 10 years, aimed at making Nigeria sufficient in sugar production.

The Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, said the initiative would create thousands of additional jobs.

FEC equally approved over 27 billion Naira for the rehabilitation of Iduane-Okiwo road, linking Ondo and Edo States, to be completed in 36 months.
