Federal Road Safety safety Commission (FRSC), Kano state command, says it has impounded over three thousand vehicles without plate numbers from August to September 2022.

The Sector Commander of FRSC, Mr. Zubairu Mato, made the disclosure during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria’s correspondent in Kano.

According to him, vehicle registration is paramount to promoting security and mitigating crimes and other societal vices.

The sector commander maintained that, there was a reduction on road crashes in the state, as the command had recorded over 100 accidents as against 315 that occurred in 2021.

Zubairu Mato attributed the decline, to the robust enforcement strategies deployed by FRSC, Kano command.

“We have heavy duty and light duty tow trucks that clear all obstructions within 24 hours”

He however,stressed that, the command had conducted sensitization at motor parks, town hall meetings across the five emirate councils and media campaigns to enlighten motorists.

The sector commander said FRSC, had established mobile courts to serve as deterrent on excessive driving,

dangerous driving, over loading, use of phone during driving and all other issues regarding road violations.

On the issue of rapid response to road crashes, Zubairu Mato explained that the command’s 24 hours stand by rescue teams assist accident victims and convey them to FRSC clinic at Chiromawa that offers free medical treatment to victims.

He noted that, the ambulance service tagged ‘zebra’ helps in mobilizing victims especially those suspected to have spinal cord injuries for special treatment, according to international standards.

” An accident occured at BUK road where a truck fell on a smaller vehicle,all the five occupants were saved due to the prompt response of our men”

The sector commander however, warned drivers to desist from committing traffic offenses, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drug, dangerous overtaking, overloading, over speeding, wrongful overtaking, route violation, under age driving and use of phone while driving.
