The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has described Kantin Kwari textile flooding as devastating and sympathetic.
NEMA Coordinator Kano Territorial Office Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi, made the indication during an assessment visit to the market.
According to him, the team observed that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed during the disaster.
Dr. Nurudeen explained that, the agency would write a comprehensive report to its headquarters for possible assistance to those affected.
The coordinator maintained that, Kano state is one of those predicted to experience flooding and heavy down pour in 2022 by NIMET.

Also speaking, the executive secretary Kano state emergency management agency SEMA, Dr. Saleh Aliyu Jili reiterated the state governments commitment to the protection of lives and property of its citizens.
He noted that, the agency had organized enlightenment campaigns and sensitization workshop for religious leaders, traditional rulers, non governmental organizations and all relevant stakeholders in disaster management to curtail flooding and other environment hazards.
Dr. Saleh Jili however, identified indiscriminate dumping of refuse and blockage of culverts and drainages as the major catalysts to flooding.
The executive secretary stressed that, the state government had set up a technical committee to look into the prevailing incidents of flooding, Identify illegal structures on water ways as well as rehabilitation and reconstruction of drainages.

Speaking on behalf of the victims, Malam Manniru Yunusa Dantsoho advised the government to include representatives of the traders in the technical committee, to ensure transparency.
He explained that, another flooding occured on Monday where more losses were recorded.
While commending NEMA and SEMA for the visit, he reaffirmed the traders readiness to give the maximum cooperation to the government for the development of the textile market.
Radio Nigeria reports that, few days ago the popular Kantin Kwari textile market experienced flooding where properties worth one billion naira were destroyed.
