Kwara State Police Command says the viral video of special Constabulary protesting over non-payment of one year salary is embarrassing.
A statement by the command spokesman Okasanmi Ajayi said that the concept of community policing and recruitment of special constabularies is voluntary in nature and are meant to complement community policing.
The statement said the special Constabulary are not on monthly renumeration like the conventional policemen, adding that the constabularies were briefed before taking up the job, which is part time.
The statement explained that following the complaints of the constabularies regarding non payment of stipends by the state government, they were invited for a meeting to discuss the way forward.
The statement expressed displeasure with the attitude of the special constabularies who adopt the use of social media to spread falsehood after their meeting with representatives of the state government.
The statement urged the general public to disregard the viral video as it was designed to embarrass the police .
Special Constabulary in Kwara state had staged a brief and peaceful protest to demand for the payment of eighteen months salary allegedly owed them by the state government.
