The result of the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates has been released.
The Head of West African Exsminations Council, WAEC, Mr. Patrick Areghan announced the release of the results at a news briefing in Lagos.
He said that although the performance of candidates in this year’s examination was quite encouraging, there was an appreciable decrease in candidate’s performance this year when compared to that of last year.
He explained that out of the One Million, Six Hundred and One Thousand, and Forty-Seven candidates that sat the examination, One Million, Two Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Five Hundred and Five of them representing Seventy Six Point Three Six percent obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
He said this was five point three four percent lower than that of last year when students that obtained minimum of Five credits including English Language and Mathematics was Eighty-One point Seven Zero percent.
Mr. Areghan stressed that WAEC being an International Examination Body known for excellence would not relent in its efforts at frustrating various strategies being employed by candidates, supervisors, teachers schools and other stakeholders in perpetrating examination Malpractice.
He announced that the results of Three Hundred and Sixty Five Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixty Four candidates, representing Twenty-two point Eight Three percent of the total number of candidates that sat the examination were withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice.
Mr. Areghan explained that the number of withheld results in this year’s WASSCE for School Candidates was Eleven point Seven Four Percent higher than that of last year which was Ten Point Nine Percent.
He emphasized that the Council would continue to sanction all cases of examination malpractice.
He therefore, appealed to schools, supervisors, teachers and candidates perpetrating all forms of examination Malpractice to desist from such act so as not to face the wrath of the law.
