Abba Kyari’s Trial Begins In Abuja

Written by Bunmi Abdulraheem

Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has commenced the trial of a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Mr Kyari is being prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations of involvement in a drug trafficking deal.

The NDLEA had alleged that Mr Kyari and his subbordinates unlawfully tampered with 21.25kilograms worth of cocaine that they seized from two apprehended drug traffickers, as well as dealing in cocaine worth 17.55kg.

When the matter came up, the NDLEA brought a Commander of Narcotics attached to its forensic unit, Patricia Afolabi, to testify as its first witness.

Mrs Afolabi told the court that part of her job specification was receiving and conducting forensic analysis on drug exhibits.

She said she had on February 7, 2022, received from the forensic liaison officer of the agency, Abubakar Aliyu, one sealed, transparent evidence pack containing 24 dispensing packs each.

Each of the parks, according to her, contained a white substance measured at 0.5grams. The package also contained a request form for analysis, she told the court.

Meanwhile, the court admitted all the exhibits in evidence without objection from the Defendants.

The matter was adjourned until tomorrow to enable counsel to the other Defendants to cross-examine the witness.
