Initiate Anti Poverty Programmes – NGO To Political Parties

Written by Godwin Duru

A non governmental organisation Push Africa, has called on aspiring political leaders to initiate deliberate policies and programmes that will address high level of poverty ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Co-founder of the organisation, Doris Egberamen made the call while launching an initiative called “Do One Thing Campaign” in Maiduguri.

She explained that the nation-wide campaign is to redirect the attention of politicians and policymakers to the challenges posed by escalating poverty in the country.

Miss Doris remarked that the initiative is also designed to support federal government’s effort to reduce the number of poor people in the country by half by 2030.

“The current situation is disturbing and if we are not deliberate about this issue, the statistics will keep getting worse and the consequences in terms of negative socio-economic impact and underdevelopment will keep on the rise” Doris stressed.

The Chief executive of Push Africa also called for establishment of local enterprise unit in each of the seven hundred and seventy four local government areas to harness mineral and agricultural potentials for sustainable growth and development.

She equally advocated for creation of a platform where poor and vulnerable people can actively participate, share their own stories with a view to finding solutions to the economic challenges.

Doris Egberamen called on political leaders, development partners and members of the public to support the campaign so as to tackle the issue poverty and unemployment in Borno state and the entire country.
