United Nations in collaboration with Borno state government have launched, over forty million dollars resilience and social cohesion project for vulnerable persons. 

The multi-sectoral project is being implemented by the United Nations Education Fund UNICEF, World Food Programme WFP and Borno state government with support from government of Germany. 

At the launch of the project in Maiduguri, UNICEF Chief of Field Office Dr. Clement Adams said more than one hundred and fifty six thousand vulnerable families have been targeted to benefit from a three-year intervention. 

He noted that the project would be implemented in Shani and Bade local government areas of Borno and Yobe state covering six sectors which include nutrition, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, education, livelihood and child protection. 

Dr. Adams remarked the targeted beneficiaries are pregnant and lactating mothers, female-headed households, children and people with disability. 

World Food Programme Head of Maiduguri office Mr. Bernard Owadi said the project was community-driven to ensure its sustainability. 

He expressed hope that the resilience and peace project would be replicated in the remaining local government areas of the two states. 

Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning Alhaji Adamu Lawan called on communities of Shani local government to own the projects so as benefit from the intervention. 

He assured of state government support and cooperation to ensure the objectives of the programme was achieved.
