NIN : Over 2M People Registered In Kano

National identification number (NIN), has been described as the only primary digital identity verifier used for identification purposes in Nigeria.

The Kano regional director national identity management commission (NIMC), Alhaji Lawan Yahaya made the indication during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria in Kano.

According to him, a total number of two million eight hundred and sixty eight thousand one hundred and one enrollees were captured and issued with national identification numbers in Kano.

“1,399,557 people were captured under Kano I ,while Kano II has a total number of 1,468,544 enrollees, across 44 local government areas and special centers in the state “

The regional director said,the introduction of the national identity ecosystem which is an agreement between federal government, European union and other organizations aimed at moving national identity registration to the highest level, paved way for incorporation of agents with capabilities of conducting the exercise.

Alhaji Lawan maintained that, modalities were put in place by the Presidential steering committee and had greatly impacted on the success of the exercise where licence was given to over seventy agents in kano, to capture and issue NIN numbers to accelerate the process.

He said Kano state government has reiterated its support to the registration through provision of fifty solar systems and 50 network connectivity gadgets across forty four local government areas and special centers.

Alhaji Lawan pointed out that,the agency had conducted sixty days enrollment exercise,where agents and staff of the agency visited wards across the 44 local government to capture and issue national identification numbers.

On the issue of modifying data by agents, the regional director urged the general public to visit the nearest NIMC office for modification as NIN numbers of those found guilty of visiting agents for updates would be suspended.

He called on traditional leaders to complement governments efforts by sensitizing the public on the importance of the registration as NIN has come to stay.

“The agency has done well in the area of sensitization and is now on the implementation stage”

Alhaji Lawan Yahaya added that, available data indicates that over eighty million people have been captured and issued with national identification numbers,while more keep trooping to the nearest enrollment centers due to modalities put in place by the minister of communications and digital economy.
