Ekiti State’s sixth governorship election is taking place today across 177 wards in 16 local government areas.

In addition, today is the election day for the Ekiti East House of Assembly Constituency one.

There are 16 political parties taking part, with five of them fielding candidates for the assembly by-election.

The election will be conducted by 10261 ad hoc personnel across 2445 polling units.

Four INEC National Commissioners and eight Residents Electoral Commissioners were deployed for the election, while INEC accredited 87 National Observers, 79 domestic 0bservers, and eight international observers.

Fourteen of the sixteen governorship candidates running in the election are men, while two are women.

The election is being covered by 583 journalists from 91 media outlets.

This will be the first election under the new Electoral Act, with 3346 Bimodal Voters Accreditation System, BVAS machines used.

Police Deputy Inspector General, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who is coordinating the election, has ordered that movement be restricted between six o’clock in the morning and five o’clock in the evening, while voting and accreditation begin at eight thirty in the morning and end at half-past two in the afternoon.
