The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kano/Jigawa says it has generated Over N14.1 billion from January to April 2022.

The Customs Command Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Umar, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Kano.

He said the service generated over N14.1 billion revenue from January to April 2022, compared to N9.6 billion generated in 2021 representing 44.9 per cent increase.

Mohammed Abubakar explained that the command had seized 1,593 bags of parboiled foreign rice of 50kg, foreign soap, spaghetti and second hand clothes from January to date with Duty Paid Value (DPV) Over N1.9 billion.

Other items include seven cartons of Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg containing 34,940 sachets and 535 packs of Cikabrin(Tramadol) 20g and 275 wraps of Indian hemp.

He noted that the illicit drugs was handed over to NDLEA for further investigation.

Umar said the command recorded 353 seizures with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N924 million within the period under review, and listed the items to include rice, used clothes, vegetable oil among others.

He called on smugglers to desist from the act of smuggling or they will face the law, stressing that the consequences of smuggling is dire on our economy.

The Area Controller appealed to Businessmen from Kano to come and explore the advantages in Inland Container Terminals in Kano aimed at saving them from traffic nightmare of Lagos and congestion in Lagos Ports.

He maintained that the Dala Inland Dry Ports when completed will greatly enhance Cargo Clearance and boost the economy of Kano and Nigeria.

“We have put in place measures to enhance speedy clearance of goods without compromising government fiscal policy”.

Mohammad Umar commended the Personnel of Various Units of the Command such as CIU, Customs Police Units, Federal Operation Unit, Strike Force, Border Drill and Post Clearance Audit Unit for their Cooperation.
