Customs Seizes Contraband Worth Over N87m In Kebbi

Kebbi State Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has seized contrabands worth over N87.7 million Duty Paid Value.

The Area Comproller, Joseph Attah, who made this known while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command in Birnin Kebbi said, smugglers are advised to keep away from all border posts under his command as there was no breathing space for them.

Comptroller Attah, said the items seized were 579 jerrycans of premium motor spirit PMS, 45 bales of second hand clothes, 320 sacks of scrap metals and two vehicles used as a means of haulage.

According to him, the renewed and sustained clampdown on smuggling activities yielded a total number of 32 seizures for the period under review.

“In line with the extant laws, most of the inflammable products have been auctioned to government agencies, with the amount generated as fees remitted to government coffers”.

Comptroller Attah pointed out that, Petrol smuggling had decreased in the face of sustained offensive against the illicit trade in the state.
