House of Representatives has expressed disappoinment with the nation’s power sector for it’s failure to address the current power outage being experienced by Nigerians.

The Chairman, House Committee on Power, Alhaji Magaji Da’u Muhammad made the statement during a meeting with the officials of the ministry of power in Abuja.

Alhaji Magaji Da’u, explained that Nigerians experienced the worst moment of electricity supply across the country, the development he said has caused variety of problems making living condition very uncomfortable.

He added that inadequate power supply had also caused collapsed of small businesses whose operations depend on stable electricity supply as well as aggravated increased process in commodities and services.

The Committee Chairman who rejected all explanations by officials of the Ministry of Power in respect of the current power problem in Nigeria, directed them to go back and highlight areas where the National Assembly can intervene to arrest the situation.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power, Mr Nebolisa Anoka, told the Committee that sequel to the deplorable condition of power, the Ministry had a meeting with major stakeholders on power supply as part of effort to address the problem.

He said report from the Transmission Company of Nigeria-TCN had indicated that the currently power supply has increased to about 3600 mega wattz and efforts were on to make it to 5000 mega wattz in four weeks time.

Also speaking, a member of the Committee, Alhaji Sada Soli from Katsina state emphasized that until the privatization process of the power sector was reviewed, the challenges of poor electricity supply could be addressed.
